EAST ANGLIA GOES TO AUSTRALIA

The East Anglian Brass Band Association is delighted that two of the test pieces commissioned by the late Brian Hastings on behalf of the Association, have been chosen for the 2008 Australian Band Championships. Anglian Dances and St Andrew’s Variations composed by Alan Fernie were commissioned for the youth bands at the Association’s 1999  Spring Contest.

This is the second time that commissions from the Association have been used for the Australian Championships. Previously the test piece Flintknappers by Stuart Johnson was played by the youth bands.

Brian’s daughter Christine (Chairman of The East Anglian Brass Band Association) said “Brian always said that he wanted the music he had commissioned to be played and not left in a storage cupboard. He would be delighted that a small part of East Anglia will be played and heard in Australia”.

The contest takes place on the fourth anniversary of Brian’s death.
