REVIEW OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 3rd NOVEMBER 2007

CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

The East Anglian Brass Band Association has always engaged top class bands for the evening concert and 2007 was no exception, with the first ever visit to East Anglia by the Welsh Champions the Cory Band. The Cory Band has held the Welsh title for the last five years. The band’s performance was excellent. The programme included a superb performance of The Year of the Dragon.

Since 1998 the Association has commissioned fourteen works for brass bands. The music commissioned by the late Brain Hastings on behalf of the Association, all reflect the heritage, culture and history of East Anglia. Anglian Dances and St Andrew’s Variations composed by Alan Fernie for the youth sections at our 1999 Spring Contest have been chosen for the 2008 Australian Band Championships. This is the second time that commissions from the Association have been used for the Australian Championships. Previously the test piece Flintknappers by Stuart Johnson was played by the youth bands. Anglian Dances was previously chosen as the fourth section test piece for the 2006 Regional Contests of the National Brass Band Championships.

In 2006 Besson Musical Instruments became part of the Buffet Crampon Group. Since then Besson has restructured and re-launched its production of professional instruments in Europe. I am delighted to be able to report that in 2008 the Association will be working with Besson Musical Instruments.

****************************

I wish to thank the Trustees, Executive Committee and member bands for the support they have shown during the year.
